Ever since Facebook created the ability for fan pages with 100 or more fans to have unique user names, I've been bombarded with fan page requests. But, does it even make sense to create a fan page? When is it best to create a Page vs. a Group? These are actually very good questions.

Who Are You Trying To Impress

Written by Ron Dawson
Over the past two years, we've seen a tremendous surge in the use of videos by pro photographers to market themselves. On behalf of all the pro video producers out there who've been able to get work from their fellow visual artists, I thank you. But, I'm starting to see a trend in promo video production that I want to address.

Reality TV for Pro Photographers

Written by Ron Dawson
What happens when you gather twenty-four of North America's top pro photographers, split them into two teams, then given each team just 24 hours to write, shoot, and edit an original short film (AND a PSA). You get the first online reality TV show for and about pro photographers.
One of the hardest parts of running a small studio is creating balance between your work and your personal life. It can be so hard for us, especially those that are creative and have a need to be in control.
This month we launched the video podcast version of our show, "F-Stop Beyond." These are personal interviews with top photographers where we go "beyond" the business talk and delve into the heart of the artist.

Let the Music Play

Written by Ron Dawson
Whenever we're commissioned to produced a promo video for a photographer, one of the questions we often get is, "Can I use [insert cool song here] in my video?" The use of copyrighted music in a video presentation is a complicated one. Just because you paid $0.99 on iTunes doesn't mean you now have the right to use that song in a video.

The Power of Outsourcing

Written by Ron Dawson
In today's competitive market for your services, in order to stay sharp and productive, and really help your business grow and scale, you must realize that you can't do it all. Michael Gerber (author of "The E-Myth") as well as the "rich daddy" himself, Robert Kiyosaki (author of "Rich Dad, Poor Dad") both speak of the necessity to create systems in your business so that you can run your business, not the other way around. One way to do that is to outsource: hand over a key aspect of running your business to a third party provider.

Blip.TV In Depth

Written by Ron Dawson
Last month I wrote about how to get your video content into the iTurnes store using a popular video distribution resource, blip.tv. This month, I'm going to give more detail on using blip.tv specifically. I'm seeing more and more photographers using blip.tv to post their video podcasts or even individual videos.

Publish Your Podcast in iTunes

Written by Ron Dawson
More photographers are starting to realize the power of video podcasts to help market themselves or extend their brand. One of the best ways to distribute your video podcast is via the free service blip tv (www.blip.tv ).  We use blip both for ourselves and for our clients. This month I'll address how to distribute iPod compatible videos via blip. In fact, if you want your video podcast available for download in iTunes with videos playable on iPods and iPhones, blip.tv is one of the easiest routes to go.

The Making of A Viral Video Campaign

Written by Ron Dawson
The last two articles I wrote dealt with the power of video to market yourself and spread awareness. I thought this month, since WPPI is just around the corner, I'd share with you the case study on our making of the WPPI comedy series "Diary of a Washed Up Rock Star Wedding Photographer."
